Poem #4/30: End Of Lease

END OF LEASE

A whole year gone by. On the anniversary of the death of us, I crushed myself like a pill bug: laughable armor but brave, still

and slept forever, or wished I did, the dog curled around my little concavity

The sun is out now; they say

Spring is here. And I was born two days ago. For the first time felt reason to unfurl. Imagine that, my body here,  a celebration. No, hasty: an acceptance

The days are growing longer. And I was born two days ago; lighter this time - practically afloat. Winter shed. Watershed.

Ache and bone extracted. The weight of you.

Today is Monday. And

I was born two days ago. I want to apologize but

what for?
